Moles on the Green - FC

Unfortunately, during the last week a mole has decided to make #5 green at Founders Club his new home. As low as our mowers are set, even after flattening the trail with a heavy tamp, the mowers will scalp the affected area. Our best chance to smooth the trail and return the green back to normal as quickly as possible will be to core aerify (using small ½” tines), pick up the cores, roll with a heavy roller, then topdress with sand. Only the trails will be aerified, less than 10% of the green.

Luckily, #5 green is the largest green we have on the plantation, leaving us plenty of pin positions while it heals.

Our plans are to do the repair work Tuesday the 30th in the afternoon. The course happens to be closed after the morning’s double tee for a fertilizer application. So we’ll take advantage of the downtime to mend the green as well.

Mole damage at FC #5.

Moles tunnel lifted turf nearly 2 inches.

Tamping the trail.
