Superintendent's Revenge

This past Thursday was the Superintendent's revenge for the MGA. This event allows the maintenance staff to have a little fun with the day's setup. Our motto for this event has always been tough, but fair. We try to challenge the players, but not allow any stunts to be impossible...and yeah, we try to have a little fun as well. Some of the pranks include using a two inch cup, placing multiple cups on a green, using a cup with no flags, tucking pins, holes placed on slopes, and the use of putting green flags.
New to this year, players were instructed to use restricted flight range balls on the par three #11. Another addition to the revenge this year was the use of a protection net on #6. The net guarded the mini-flag, forcing players to hit over it to reach the green. Here is a picture of that setup.

Our favorite prank on "Revenge" day is the radio in the cup. For those unfamiliar with this stunt, we place an irrigation radio in the cup and when players reach the green they are welcomed by the voices in the hole. This prank has been well received by the MGA and wouldn't be near as successful without the help from the hospitality staff. Here are some pictures of the setup and execution of the "voices in the 18th hole".

The tools used for the setup.

First we cut a regulation hole.

Then we insert 2 1/2" PVC pipe inside the hole.

We then lightly tap the PVC to a depth to fit the radio.

Hole inside a hole.

Radio in place.

Cup set. You can barely see the antenna.

Finished product. The hole is located with an unobstructed view from the clubhouse.

In action. Here you can see Jessica taunting the players from the Grille.

Where is that noise coming from?
Overall, Superintendent's Revenge was a success. We look forward to hosting this event next time and hope we can have some new tricks up our sleeve.
