Moisture Management

Moisture levels are monitored very closely, especially on greens.  The goal is to maintain volumetric water content between 12-20%.  Keeping the greens in this range provides adequately dry and firm playing conditions while keeping the turf healthy.  This is also very important in the winter to prevent dessication from the cold, dry winter air.  Moisture levels are checked everyday and irrigation is added as needed.

Here the digital moisture meter shows this spot
at 17.4% with an average of 16.1% over the four
samples taken on this green.  Perfect.
