Reducing the shade at the PC, where we stand..

       Last fall we collected data regarding sunlight amounts and the negative effects they have on turf. We showed you, with factual data, that sunlight is crucial to the success of MiniVerde putting surfaces. Our data coincided with each green's performance level. Optimal sunlight conditions produced the highest quality putting surfaces, where conversely, poor sunlight amounts resulted in poor turf quality. This initial post and original data can be found here.
       We have been working at improving our average annual sunlight totals since January. Below is an interactive excel chart that displays our data. You can navigate through the sheet just as you would working on your own document. In the chart you will see the totals from December 2013 and our current amounts. This spreadsheet is also available to download for easier viewing.

       This year we have concentrated our efforts to increasing our annual averages to above nine hours. We have removed trees from hole #'s 7, 10, 11, 14 & 17. Overall we gained 348 minutes of average daily sunlight. Here is a breakdown of our site specific increases.

  • (#7) ---> + 11 minutes
  • (Front Right #7) ---> + 51 minutes
  • (#10) ---> + 2 minutes
  • (Back Right #10) ---> +18 minutes
  • (#11) ---> +14 minutes
  • (#14) ---> +41 minutes
  • (Front Left #14) ---> +54 minutes
  • (#17) ---> + 47 minutes
  • (Front Right #17) ---> +110 minutes

       The information above shows that we are making progress, but the spreadsheet still indicates we have some work to do. We plan to continue our tree removal program through the month of March. We intend to work on the back right of #9 and #'s 10 & 11. Please download the application above and as always feel free to contact us with any concerns.
