Two Necessary Evils - Syringing and Fans



The heat is on!

      As summer temperatures boil, golf courses with bentgrass  (a grass that originated in cool European climates) must take every precaution to cool the turf. We notice golfers cringe every time a hose cart passes by headed for a green.  Please bear with us and refrain from hitting as we syringe the greens. We’ll do our best to move on and off as quickly as possible.

Another tool we use to help keep the turf cool is a fan. University studies show that fans have a cooling effect on the turf canopy, soil temperature and, increased rooting.

While we are in the process of installing a fan to #13 green at The Founders Club, all of the other fans are out. Use of fans in the Southeast on bentgrass greens with poor air movement has become commonplace during the summer months. To read more about the benefits of fans on turfgrass,  click here:
